FAQ
Are the images uploaded?
No. Reading, compressing and exporting are all done locally through the browser Canvas API. The files never leave your device and no server-side processing occurs.
Does compression hurt quality?
Yes. A lower quality setting means a smaller file but more visible detail loss. For JPEG, PNG and WebP, 70%-85% quality usually looks identical to the eye while cutting the file size by more than half.
Why can the output be larger than the input?
If the original is already a heavily optimized JPEG, re-encoding it can produce a bigger file. Lower the quality setting or choose a different output format in that case.
Which formats are supported?
Common image formats can be read, including JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF (depending on browser support). Output can be JPEG, WebP or PNG.
