Fraction Calculator
Add, subtract, multiply or divide two fractions and get the simplest form plus the mixed number, decimal, percentage and full working.
How to Use
- Fill in both fractions
Type each fraction in the left and right boxes (1/3, 2, 2 1/3, -3/4 all work) and choose add, subtract, multiply or divide.
- Read the four outputs
The panel shows the simplest fraction, the mixed number, the decimal and the percentage. A mixed number appears only for improper fractions.
- Check the working
The working panel prints the common denominator and reduction steps line by line, so you can compare them with your own pencil work.
FAQ
How do I enter a mixed number?
Write it with a space, like 2 1/3, or with an underscore as 2_1/3. Both are read as 7/3.
Why does the result sometimes show as a whole number?
Because reduction can leave a denominator of 1 — 1/3 + 1/6 is 1/2, while 1/2 + 1/2 is 1. A denominator of 1 is printed as the integer, not as 1/1.
Where does the common denominator come from?
The least common multiple of the two denominators, with numerators scaled to match, so the intermediate fractions are equal in value to the originals.
Can I type decimals?
No — convert to a fraction first (0.75 becomes 3/4) or read the decimal in the result panel. Keeping everything in fractions is exact, with no floating point drift.
