FAQ
Why do some characters come out wrong when converting to traditional?
Simplified to traditional has many one-to-many mappings: a single simplified character maps to several traditional forms — 发 to 發 and 髮, 干 to 乾, 幹 and 干. Character-by-character conversion cannot decide which one fits, so this tool matches phrases first and falls back to single characters only when no phrase matches, which resolves the vast majority of cases. A rare obscure word or proper noun may still need a manual tweak.
Can traditional to simplified go wrong too?
Traditional to simplified is a converging process — several traditional forms merge into one simplified character — so errors are rare. The common edge case is Japanese variants or uncommon glyphs mixed into traditional text (e.g. 髙, 凉); the OpenCC-based dictionary normalises common variants as well.
Does it support Hong Kong or Taiwan traditional?
The tool outputs standard traditional Chinese (OpenCC standard). Hong Kong and Taiwan differ mainly in a handful of variant forms (e.g. 裏 vs 裡); this tool uses the Taiwan-preferred variants but does not perform regional vocabulary localisation (软件 stays 軟件, not 軟體). Use a vocabulary-level pass for that.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in the browser — the dictionary is embedded in the page and your input triggers no network requests. It works offline.
