URL Slug Generator
Turn any headline into a clean URL slug: strip accents and punctuation, collapse separators, keep or drop CJK, and cap the length.
How to Use
- Paste the source text
Drop a headline or any text into the box; punctuation, full-width symbols and stray spaces are handled automatically.
- Choose separator and rules
Decide between hyphens and underscores, whether to lowercase, keep or strip CJK, and the maximum length.
- Copy the slug
The result box holds the final path segment — click 'Copy'. The note below tells you whether truncation occurred.
FAQ
Why lowercase everything?
Many servers and CDNs treat paths as case-sensitive, so /Post/One and /post/one become two different pages and duplicate content. Uniform lowercase avoids that.
Keep or strip Chinese characters?
Keeping them reads better but lengthens the URL and shows up percent-encoded in the address bar. Keep them for in-site Chinese links; strip them for external short links or multilingual sites with English keywords.
What is risky about dot separators?
Some static servers read a trailing dot as a file-extension boundary, producing a 301 or 404. Unless your framework explicitly supports it, prefer hyphens.
What length limit should I use?
60–75 characters is the common ceiling — enough to convey the topic without being truncated in search results. The tool caps at 200; 0 means unlimited.
