Hash Calculator
Free hash calculator: compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 in one pass, UTF-8 aware for CJK text, all locally in your browser.
How to Use
- Enter text
Paste or type your content; CJK text is hashed over UTF-8 bytes.
- Choose algorithms
By default all five are computed; pick a single one and the panel shows only that digest.
- Copy the output
Click any row to copy it, or use Copy shown results to take everything at once.
FAQ
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is computed in your browser with JavaScript and never crosses the network, so sensitive content is safe to process.
How do MD5 and SHA-256 differ?
MD5 outputs 128 bits (32 hex characters) while SHA-256 outputs 256 bits (64 characters). MD5 is proven vulnerable to deliberate collisions and is no longer suitable for security — use it only for integrity checks.
Why does a Chinese string hash differently elsewhere?
Hashes operate on bytes, not characters, and CJK text has different bytes per encoding. This tool always uses UTF-8; a site using GBK will produce a different digest.
Can I verify files with it?
It verifies text content. For a whole file, run md5sum or shasum from a command line — this tool handles the text you paste in.
